  • crank pulley for supercharger

    Hi guys,

I wanna use the 3.1(with aloy heads) crankpulley(dampener)on my 2.8L crank
(btw=externall.balanced) instead of the original one, cause that way I can machine 2 extra grooves for the belt that drives the m90 sc.(8grooves instead of only 6)

these pulleys are neutrally balanced as far as I know

do I need to balance the crank with the (3.1)pulley on it ?
I will use the externally balanced flywheel with that crank of course.

    thanx.

Any time you balance the rotating assembly, it is best to do the crank/pistons/rods by themselves (assuming internal balance engine), then balance with other things attached (damper, flywheel, clutch, etc). This ensures the engine itself is balanced. For your application, I would have the crank/pistons/rods/flywheel balanced without the damper, then have them check with the damper.

a 3.1l damper will not fit on a gen 1 motor. the inner diameter of the pulley itself is smaller than a gen 2 (less meat taken out) and it hits the oil pan. trust me, ive tried this myself.

how can this be then ?
the crank journals are supposed to be the same size.

so that pully should fit the 87 crank of my fiero.
btw I am gonna use the 3.1 timing cover and heads.

That doesn't make sense, maybe a better description/picture of what was hitting?

I'm using a genI balancer and pulley on my genII crank in my Jimmy.

the balancer will fit on the crank itself. i attempted to use a gen 2 damper on my gan 1 motor because i was unable to locate a gen 1 cavalier balancer (its one of those oddball things for the narrow gen 1 timing cover). it fit on the motor fine, untill i tried to put the oil pan on. because of how the oil pan drops down at the front. the pan hits the inside of the damper (under directly under were it drives the belt). i was unable to make it work, so i had to find a gen 1 cavalier damper to make this work. being it uses the same oil pan as a fiero, im better the same issues would happen with putting a gen 2 damper on a gen 1 motor.

if you are using a gen 2 timing cover you will have no issues at all with it.
