  • 3100 to 3400 intake manifold swap

i am going to swap the lower and upper intake manifolds and tb to 3400 manifolds and tb. my question is, do i use the 3400 fuel injectors and fuel rail? or are they the same. also just wondering how much of a difference it will make.

Keep your 3100 rail and injectors.

The newer 3100s and 3400s (2000+) use a higher static fuel pressure than the previous years and will cause a drastic change in fueling. I mention this because you didn't mention what year of vehicle your were getting the 3400 parts from.

im going to find a 96-98 3400 this way the egr and the coolant lines are the same. but i figured since there would be more air flow with the manifolds and tb that i should use the injectors.

Keep your fuel rail, FRP, and injectors. They will fit right in. I'd pick up some new o-rings though since you will be un-seating them from the lower intake manifold. Fresh ones will prevent a vacuum leak.

The computer will be able to adjust for the added flow. It may take a little driving around for it to learn, but it will. (note that it can only learn and adjust so much, so for tons of big modifications it would be best to tune the computer.)

However if you change the fuel pressure, and size of injectors, the computer does not know that they are different. It will still think that they are the original ones (as it has code set for the flow rates of the original ones), and will end up running too rich.

It is not like running a carburetor engine where you have to "manually" tune the fuel for the flow for the motor. The computer can tweak things to adjust for the readings of the o2 sensor.

You can get up to a 05 top end and the EGR will be different style but the plug is the same and it will plug right in. I'm currently running a 00+ style EGR and its from a 05 impala.

One other thing... the 00+ manifolds have a better flow pattern inside, I'll post pics tonight on what I'm talking about... The physical neck is bigger on 00+ upper intakes.
