Well It might seam like alot of mods but there are people on here with more and arent touching 300HP Its really not that easy. What kind of pistons are you running what type of compression are you wanting to go with? there are a few more things to consider then just the basics.

No that will not even be near 300. If you dont want to do a swap the least got with a GEN III top end. Get compression in the 10's at least. Your cam choice will have to be quite agressive to get the power on up high and make the number you want.

300 HP from any 60 degree V6 without a power adder (super, turbo, nitrous) is going to be extremely difficult.

I do know that they used to get the 2.8's upto around 280-290 Crank HP, but that was a totally decked out race motor, completely non-streetable, 12.5:1+ compression, extreme cam, no idle to speak of, etc.

go 12:1 compression, crane 272 cam, 3400 top end, custom headers, ported intakes and heads, and larger TB. There is more to it than just those as well...as in properly made headers, matching head work, optimally ported intake manifolds, tuned computer.

last I heard they wanted a ton of cash for their headers. I wouldn't plan on a set that fits the J body to fit a W body. Also, most companies just make sets that fit, not optimal sets. If you want close to 300 hp, you need to do all you can to get power out of the engine, which means you have to make an equal length set with the right length primaries. Thats going to be probably 36-48 inches in length. Thats just a guess on my part but its longer than you can easily fit, which means any mass produced set likely wont be made this way.

Ed from headersbyed firmly held that 40"+is better. He said he doesn't know why companies even make smaller for he'd rather have manifolds But he said go as long as possible, but fitting them sometimes is mor eimportant. I chose 30' becuz they'd fit, plus totally maximize high end. And he said with the 4 valve/cyl design and the high redline, 30" should be about right, but maybe a little short. Now the guys over at Mymonte.com, they chose an 8" primary, and they aren't equal lengh and they have a larger diameter than the headers on Winston Cup cars.

Yeah, depends on powerband. For 300 hp out of a 3.1 you have to go for high RPM and sacrifice idle quality.

I hope you've got lots of money to spend on this motor....because its gonna cost some serious money.....

I spent ~$4,500 on just the rebuild for my car, and only had 125 WHP, yes that is with bad tuning and the motor built for a turbo so its obviously sacraficing some cam. Either way, thats 175HP, you've gotta find a lot somewhere.

The next question, why? For the amount of money you spent TRYING to get to 300HP you could be making over 500 out of a V8. I just don't see it economically worth it. I guess thats just my opinion though?

3.4 DOHC, 300 is a walk in the park compared to the pushrods.

I dont think a 272 cam is gonna push 300 hp n/a. N/A is for suckas.

                              P.S. I wouldnt touch a 112 centerline with N/A with a ten foot stick......
