When are people going to realize a tortional dampers have NOTHING to do with engine balance.

It is designed to absorb the harmonics caused by the flexing of the crank in a radial direction. This is why checking bearings is a completley wrong indication of any problems. However stretched out timing chanins, broken flywheel/flexplate hubs and eratic valve and ignition timing are all symptoms. Engines that spend little time at the RPM where the crank resonates will not see these problems as quickly as an engine that spends more time at or near the crankshaft resonance. So drag racers could get away without a damper. Where as an endurance racer will not.

No one in their right mind would build an engine without one. Not GM, FORD or Chrysler or any import brand or any professional engine builder. I guess thats why you only see half ass idiot companies selling such garbage products.

You might see a max of 10 HP at peak RPM out of this product. Thats jack shit and not worth the problems that you might see. Dont think you are going to feel a difference at the lower half of the RPM range with an underdrive pulley.

I would not be bashing an under drive pulley made for these engines as long as it had a tortional vibration ring built in. If a Camaro or S-10 owner wanted a bolt on pulley I would say go for it since the damper sits behind the pulley.
