  • Bosch spark plugs

Hey everybody i'm not really sure where to put this so i'm sorry if it's in the wrong spot.
Anyway, I went and bought some of those Bosch platinum spark plugs for my car. I gapped them and made sure they were the same length and all( bosch +4 plugs were to short! ) and now my car runs like crap. When i start it , it acts like it's trying to find idle, and then when it does it has no torque, My battery died about a week ago and stayed down for too long, and the ECU got screwed up. So if somebody can give me an idea of what's goin on with my pride and joy it would be greatly appreciated!
gotta get it finished up soon so i can take it to the drag track this season!

It is probably just the plugs. I have had nothing but bad luck with any plug from Bosch. My suggestion is to get some AC Delco rapidfire plugs.

      Bosch plugs

Take it from me bosch is the worst spark plug you could ever put in a GM vehicle, just from 22 years of being an auto technician.I have seen many people make this mistake and it is a nono.Myself I use plugs for a Buick Grand National being they are the coldest plug AC Delco provides, and my 2.8 stroker has run excellent for the last 5 years on these plugs. However I can't say you'r idle problem stems from those plugs, more likely you may have inadvertantly disconnected something like a vac line or sensor connector. My experiance with bosch plugs were all misfire related.

bosch plugs are vague in their heat ranges. you could be two ranges too hot or cold. i've used NGK V-groove. i now have NGK iridium.

you're idle problem may be due to the fact you lost power to the pcm. you'll have to do what's called an idle relearn. i had the hunting idle for a week after i disconnected the battery. here's what you do: disconnect battery for 30+ seconds, reconnect. before starting make sure ALL power accessories are off (radio, blower motor, dome lights etc.) the engine must be cool. start the engine let it run until fully warm (UPPER RADIATOR HOSE IS HOT). DO NOT TURN ON ANY LIGHTS, ACCESSORIES, ANYTHING!! shut the engine off for 10 seconds. set emergency brake, restart engine and immediately put in drive and release foot brake. let sit in drive for 5 minutes again, DO NOT TURN ANYTHING ON. after 5 minutes, it's all good.

wow so those darned ole bosch plugs are a piece-o-crap for GM cars. I did'nt know there was a way to speed up the process of re-learn after the ECU dies, I've had mine for about 4 years now and i've always just had to deal with it until it fixed itself.
Anyway thanx you guy's for the help! cars goin to the track on the 23rd of this month. wish me luck!

Gapped the plugs? I hope you just measured and didn't gap them. They should be pre-gapped and gapping them can damage the coating on them... Only stock plain metal plugs can be really gapped...

bosh plugs didnt work in my 3.1, i drove to the end pf my road, half mile, and back and it was running on 5 cylinders. go with any ngk, i use v power cuz they are cheap and dont foul and they are mid grade performance. you could get the iridium plugs but you have to gap them and they dont make a difference. not to metion they are 6 bucks a plug.

Just get the cheap AC Delcos. I have had them for a while and made my car run better than the Boschs that were in the car when I got it.

Why did you put platinum plugs in a vehicle not originally equipped so? Maybe theres your reason. Stick with genuine AC Delcos and you'll never go wrong. You must gap all plugs, but you do have to be careful with platinums, get a spark plug gap tool to do this, theyre less than 5 bucks and handy to have. We have NGK TR-55s on my girls 99 T/A but they were recommended to me by a professional tune shop for those engines.

p.s. AC Delco Rapidfires are a gigantic waste of money. Period.

Don't use the $5 gap tool on platinum or iridium tipped plugs. You must use pliers and pull up on the ground so as not to touch the coated tips. They are very brittle and can be damaged.

                        Here is some info too:
