  • How much of a gain does a bigger TB give on 3.1's?

Just curious. I hear of a lot of people making that move.
    Thanks,

had a 97 lumina 3100 with the stock 52mm TB. put a 56mm TB from a 3400 and noticed a gain throughout the power band. enough that i knew i gained instead of questioning it. something that's 10mm bigger i'm thinking will give you about 10 hp or more if you've done mods to the intake, cam, or exhaust.

now, on my Z24, with other mods at stated below, i feel i gained 15. that was from the 52mm to the 62mm. much more torque in the mid for sure! the car now is faster than a stock GAGT in the mid range, but slower after 4300rpm.

torq455 is your 3.1mpfi manifold ported open to 62mm to match the TB? And you probably feel the power sooner because the TB is flowing as much as the 52 even before WOT.

I'm not sure how much power they give you. I wonder if anyone has a dyno with before and after just changing TB alone???

Hmm.. so a stock 3400 TB will bolt right up to my 3.1 and will give that much of an increase??

about, you may have to swap out the linkage though.

Hmm... I like the sound of that. Just the linkage, or the whole throttle cable? Because the linkage should be cake. And the TB.

In order for a 3100 TB to work on a 3.1 intake (without an adapter), the TB has to be upside down, which would put the linkage on the opposite side. This is because the mounting holes are in opposite corners between the 2 engines. I currently have an OLD 62mm TB that was meant for a 3.1L mounted on my 3400 and in order to get it to work, I needed to have a 1/2" adapter plate made to allow for the linkage to stay on the correct side with the correct pull direction.

Also to take advantage of the larger bore TB, the UIM will have to ported to match.

so a 3.4 TB is 62mm? Will it bolt to my3.1 intake or will i need an adapter made?

do you mean 3400, or 3.4 DOHC? can't say for the 3.4 but the 3400 is 56mm. no, neither one will bolt up to 3.1 MPFI.
