  • Modified Carb UIM?

    Hi to all ,
I was wondering if anyone has attempted to take a stock 2 barrel carb intake for a 2.8 and modifie the upper manifold then make 4 barrel adapter plate similar to the Edelbrock one and weld it too the upper manifold so you could bolt on a small 4 barrel, I don`t like the Eddy as it has small ports on one side for torque and larger ones on the opposite side for upper HP but only when used with the Eddy cam and Eddy Headers as a combo, the Eddy headers have the same small port & large port flanges as the intake , I would like to use the Crane Powermax cam but don`t want to have to use the Eddy intake or headers, any thoughts on this mod, thanks Bill,, hey Sappy do ya think it could be done?

There is partly a reason they did that. It was to meet the CARB aproval. That is for us boys that run in the great state of California. I don't think edelbrock is using a special cam with that cus that would change the lift on both sides of the engine. Mandating that no person could use there camshaft in another engine with out the intake and exhaust headers.

With the edelbrock you can use camshaft you want the headers arn't designed for equal lenght. they were designed as oem replacement for your exhaust manifold. They do work better but if you have a trooper don't waste your time as they aren't going to fit right.

As far as the intake manifold. Do you do any off roading ??? where do you want your power at RPM Range? Is this a daily driver? Do you have to pass smog? If you don't maybe you want to use the victor intake. But something tells me the victor is no egr.

You should be able pop a bolt plate adapter on there but. I think your going to have to have some one design the adapter. As I don't know of anybody out there using them. I could make you one but. I would have to have an old intake manifold.

Hi again, the truck is 2 wd, a daily driver, has a Comp Cam 252 H grind and Hedman longtube headers, am just toying with the idea of making this adapter and puting a 4 barrel on..

edelbrock makes two types. I was wrong about a Victor intake, edlebrock makes that one too just not for our trucks/engines. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_..._v6_perf.shtml

Thats edelbrocks website if you look at it there are two intake manifolds one performer V2 this one is for the 2-bbl thats with egr V4 and one with out. Thats for the 4 Barral They even give you the holley recomended carb...

that is the V4 here I guess they call it the Torker II I thought it was a victor thats why I said that. That link is the one with out EGR. If you got the time and have a wedge of Aluminum you want to turn down with a grinder and then make a bolt plate I say go for it. Your going to like the results on the top end. Its not going to change the Torque that much. Just help breath above 2500 rpm.

With your cam lift of .425 that should open it up and give it some top end get up and go.

In 88 Didn't you guys get TBI ?

Mr. Gasket makes a 2 barrel to 4 barrel adapter plate. It will bolt right on to your stock intake manifold. It's a pretty common part.

Once upon a time Offenhouser made an intake for the 2.8L. You may find a used one on e-bay or something.

Dont use a powermax Cam from crane. They are the stupidest grinds. Get the 260 or 272 grind.

                Question re Offy Manifold

You mentioned an Offenhauser manifold. Was/is it for mounting a four barrel?

If anyone out there has a four barrel on top of a 60 degree V-6, please tell me how tall the manifold plus the carb is above the valley between the two heads. I am pressed for room EVERYWHERE but height is my main concern - I don't like louvered hoods. A 2.8 plus 4L60 trans Plus 3.43 Posi are being transplanted from a Firebird into a 1958 MGA coupe.

                Thanks for your help!

Sorry I am using TBI I know someone on s-series.org has an old offy manifold they might be able to help. All I know for sure is it does fit a stock S-10 hood.

Thanks, BTY. I checked the s-series web site but do not know how to find the person with the Offy intake manifold. Any suggestions?
