Hello all. A 3.4 intake a good swap for my 91 3.1?
Hello all. A 3.4 intake a good swap for my 91 3.1?
I was just wondering what kind of performance could be had by doing this swap. How straight forward is it? Which year intake is the best to work with?
Thanks,
Matt
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons
I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

you mean a 3400? i hope so..
typically a 3400 top end on a 3.1 with no other mods will gain you around 30 HP if tuned right. That's with the 3400 exhaust manifolds and a good exhaust...

What???? Thats news to the ears!!
So lets get this straight. 3400 intake manifold, 3400 exhaust manifold, and that's it? What kind of work must be done in order to get these to fit my 3.1? Thanks for the link btw.

you need the heads, lower intake manifold, plenum, exhaust manifolds, fuel rail/injectors and the throttle body. Possibly the timing cover if you like power steering.
sil, a 3500 head is too big to match up with the 3.1 bore. 3500 heads swap to a 3400 block though..

Original L82 Longblock with LA1, LX9, LX5 parts
Manifold-back 2.5" SS Mandrel Exhaust. Hardware is SS too.
Well then you Cavvie guys just suck dontcha But cool. If I run across a 3100 I might just pick it up then. Thanks man!
EDIT: Just so we're on the same page, the tranny will bolt up and all the accesories will fit right?
Yep!
you'll have to swap over a few things like the alternator bracket but that's cake.
i have an '89 2.8L alternator bracket and lift brackets on my 2004 3500 also a '91 Oil pressure sensor, '91 knock sensor, 93 transmition and other misc stuff.
Wow that's pretty neat. I figure the performance difference between my '91 3.1 and a '98 3100 is pretty damn high, so I might just start there then start my modding bug up again
BTW.. how the WTF are you getting 300hp and 300 lb's of torque from a 3500???

If you want a 3100 then go for a year 2000+ one. The large port stuff is way better... or just a 3400.. mounting is the same.
a GP has front dog bone mounts and I don't know about the other moutns but the front ones should fit fine. if it doesn't then perhaps get one from a later yaer GP that had the 3100 in it.
Yeah go for 3400 or if 3100 get 2000+. But 3400 for .3l more is better
3400 ~185, 2000+3100 ~175, 94-99 3100 ~155hp.
