  • Exhaust pipe work

Hey everybody i'm new to the board, and i have a 93 Corsica LT, and i swear this thing has so much power( coming from a life of 2.2 sfi engines ), but anyway i'm setting this car up for weekend drag racing, nothing big just grudge races aginst rice grinders. Anyway i cut my exhaust pipe off right before the cat and since we don't have noise or emissions laws down here in AR the cops don't really care, the only weird part is it will run real rough and almost die if i don't let it run a few minutes and warm up. it's got a hypertech stage 2 chip, 160 thermostat, and cold air intake. If anybody can help me get this thing lined out right or know of some easy power upgrades to give me an edge on the rice grinders lemme know, the races open in a week!
    Thanx

Take out the chip and put a stock t-stat back in. That is why your car runs like shit when it's cold.

For exhaust, you need more than what you got now. You'll loose bottom end torque with such a free flowing exhaust. Take it to a shop and get them to bend you a new system from the manifold back. You can use 2.5 piping and get a good muffler that provides some restriction but not too much. DynoMax, Flowmaster, and Magnaflow are all good brands and not too expensive.

You'll be suprised what your little 660 will sound like with a good exhaust.

wide open pipes are not good for what you need at the track. You need good low and mid power, not necessarily top end power. A set of headers are normally tuned and help but a stock manifold into essentially open air will not.

If you can lay your hands on a set of headers and run about 6' of 2.5" pipe off the ends you will be close to the best you can do. 2.5" is ok. I would try putting on the original piping first. Look for good low and mids. And good luck.
