  • Ideal Setup for a 3100

I'm almost ready to start modding my 3100, but i just wanted to get the right setup w/o complexity...but whatever.
    Would an ideal setup be:

    3100 block
    3100/3400 Large Port Lower Intake
    96-99 3400 Upper Intake or a 3500 UIM
    Custom Ported 3100/3400 Heads
    65mm TB

After that 'simple' stuff I would wanna put in a new camshaft...i think
sadly i dont know how to read those measurements. I have no idea what those numbers mean...help?

Looks like a pretty good start. Tuning would be high on my list though, as these cars are tuned for economy/performance from the factory, so there can be decent gains by just simple tuning on an otherwise stock engine.

As far as numbers, do you mean camshaft numbers?

      Yes camshaft numbers. Ex.

      560/.566 lift 227/236 duration @ .050", 109.5 ICL 112 LSA

I have no idea what that means.

Lift is the amount that the valve gets opened.
Duration is the amount (in degrees) that the valve is above .050" of lift.
ICL is the intake centerline of the cam, so basically the orientation of the cam in the block.
LSA is the lobe seperation angle, which is the amount of degrees between the peak of the intake lobe and the peak of the exhaust lobe, which then determines the amount of overlap between the intake and exhaust lobes.

Thanks...now i know what it means, generally speaking. Imma read and try to understand that Exhaust and Intake tuning Article ans see if that helps.
