    ... besides hydraulic or mechanical valvetrain? is the lower end, basically the same?

    There are alot of differences on the block (mount boss locations, starter location, oiling galleries, etc). As far as the valvetrain, they are both hydraulic, just the 3400 is a roller setup, whereas the 3.4 is a non-roller setup.

      dont forget the piston dishes are a lot deeper on the 3.4 than the 3400
      3.4L camaro some goodies

        It would actually be the other way around. The 3.4 has larger combustion chambers than teh 3400 and thus will have smaller dishes in teh pistons than the 3400.
