  • My latest projects

We have some customers who have been waiting somewhat patiently for some of our new products to be developed. The past two months has been very hectic with our commercial work and we haven't progressed much during that time. This past week, I have had a little bit of time to devote to these items. As you can tell, I am quite proud of what we have been able to make.

This setup is for RWD swaps and includes billet timing chain cover with built in motor mounts, billet ALT bracket, billet PS bracket and billet water pump housing. The opening in the front of the WP housing will have a cover that the inlet hose connects to. There are still some misc pieces to be made for the set to be complete. All sealed areas use o-rings to eliminate the need for gaskets.

I think that with proper spacers, the two brackets could be used on a Camaro with a FWD top end. Any thoughts or comments about it.

Wow, that is impressive, and gorgeous. Superb work as always.

How about the 3500 m90 set up?

      *Idea for a new product...

How about a simple plug turned from aluminium to eliminate the cam sensor for us MPFI guys... Might be a nice dress up item if the price is right

Primarily designed for swaps to MGs but can be used for many other FWD to RWD applications like sandrails, Stalker V6 etc. The next step is to add provisions for an AC compressor.

Dave, I will look into making a blank plug for the cam sensor.

            Thanks

Haven't had time to persue the manifolds yet. We have been swamped for over two months with our regular work. Next I have to run some inventory for the store, then I can move on to some prototypes.

Why not use a stock RWD timing cover and water pump?

You can use a RWD cover on a MG swap but there are a few things that cause problems. The cover has to be plugged to use on a FWD engine, clearance between the crank pulley and steering rack is extremely close, the inlet hose is against the steering shaft, there are no brackets for PS, ALT & AC for the FWD heads, it simplifies the mounting process since the mounting holes on FWD blocks are forever changing and moving the engine mounts to the front frees up more side space for headers. Also, the billet cover can use the billet WP housing, a direct mount Mezier electric pump or a remote electric pump.

This setup will have a limited market since the many swappers are on a low budget. It is targeted for the ones who want good looking parts that are plug & play to simplify the higher power FWD swap and are willing to spend money to save time. And did I mention the BLING?

Ahh I didn't realize the MG's were so tight. Makes perfect sense now.

Whats the deal on the ITB setup?

It's a project that I have slowly been working on for a while now. They are almost complete except the throttle shafts and linkages. At 45mm, they are too small for the 3900 so I am planning to get a 3500 to use them on in the three wheeler. If they work good, I plan to make another set for the 3900 when it goes in the Mini Cooper.

Very cool. ITB are great for cylinder distribution.

BG has a new inline carb out that has a similar effect but with less cost and complexity. Check it out here http://www.barrygrant.com/images/BadManImg.htm

I know it is a type of carb but the desight can be adapted for EFI. Something to consider.

I also saw another interesting product but cant find it on the net. It was an ITB system that used EFI but the injectors only metered the fuel. The injection actually happened by way of a venturi. This way you get the metering precision of EFI but the atomization and fuel cooling effect of a carb.

haha CNCguy i want to work where you work someday after i graduate. I'm sure ya'll are looking for engineers with mechanical design under their belts

Seems like the exact kind of work I'd want to do!

You're putting a 3900 in a mini cooper? Old one or new one? That would be a tight fit I'd think, but I'd like to see pics when it's done. My brother is big into mini's. He runs a tuning company for new mini's.

I wish that we could design and build stuff like this all the time but can't since it really doesn't make money at this point. My son and I are the only ones here so we have to keep the money making jobs going and do the fun stuff when we can.

It's an old style Mini. My plan is to build a tube chassis, make it rear wheel drive and use a narrowed Mustang II front suspension with tubular control arms. Leaning towards using a Chrysler 42LE tranny to make it mid-engined. I have some pics of one that was converted to RWD and is powered by a 2.8 60V6 up front. It's a very sharp car from what I can see in the pics. My goal is to keep the weight to under 1600# and 275~300hp. I am starting with a bare shell so all options are open on what can be done to it.

The VTEC is a more common swap in a Mini but I'm not really into Hondas. A streched front end is usually used for the swaps.
