looks nice dave. did the locks come with the retainers, or just a general 7° and they come with a standard valve size / groove.

I sent those forever ago.. lol hopefully they didn't get hung up at the border.

the locks and retainers were seperate but are the matched set for the LS1/LS6. I believe they're the same ones that Ben sells in the store.

Um Sorry to say but you have the wrong retainer. THe 787 is for NON LS series engines. You need retainer 774 for use in LS Series engines. The Gen III 660 engines use the same valve stem diameter as an LS Series engine making the locks the same as an LS series engines and the 774 in turn has a smaller tapered hole for the smaller locks. The 787 Retainer is for all engines with 11/32 valve stems like an iron head motor or gen II Smallblock.

If you have time exchange the 787 retainer if not use stock retainers they are just as good. If you keep that retainer the rocker arm will touch the edges of the retainer and not the valve stem, like it should.

Here is what a properly installed 787 retainer looks like

Notice the stem protruding from the retainer and notice the locks sit slightly above the top edge of the retainer.

I actually noticed that this morning. I forgot that the springs i bought were reccomended for the 3800... I found the 774's on summit for the exact same price. not sure if i'm going to exchange them yet or just go back to the stock ones and save a little cash...

these would actually work if i was running roller tiped rockers though...

i was thinking the same ting, i was looking at those pics and i'm thinking, now, shouldn't the valve stem be above the retainer, not below it....? i didn't say anything though, i guess i figured you noticed and had already taken it into consideration and done something if you needed to.....hmm

anyway, sweet. Apparently then your using the stock rockers? besides pushrods what else is left before you can start final assembly?

i just sent the wrong retainers back to exchange for the LS1 ones, same exact price...

i was going to put the stock ones back in but the first one i did slipped out of the spring compressor bounced the retainer off my nose and put a small dent in the wall. good thing i was wearing saftey goggles..

I took that as a sign that i should just get the right ones.. lmao

yes get the right ones, wonder what the weight differences are from the stock ones though. can't be much.

wondered why those looked so "pancake-ish" never even realized they were the wrong ones lol

oh speaking of the springs arrived today, as soon as i open my mouth eh. thx again

hopefully it warms up a bit around here. There is no way i'm bolting heads down to an engine when it's -25F... haha
