for 02 3400 ok so im looking at getting a cam off the store here, and replacing that and the bearings. so i need some specs to work with. so far i have the dhp PT, cai and ss headers and borla cat back. im looking at a better cam, and will prob use the 3500 springs or lsx im not sure yet, but i guess specs on the cam would be nice. im running NA right now, and the stock cam, and want something better than that, with at little less than max lift or as the 3500/lsx springs can take. i want to keep my brakes and really good vacuum if possible...what what are your recommendations? also im thinkin i should go with the 3500 springs because i dont have to modify the head to use them or replace the vavle guides. i would also like to use the titanium retianers if they will fit the 3500 and if sappy offers them.

depending on just how radical that grind is, you might not even have to worry about custom length pushrods . . . although you'll want to double check to be certain. You shouldn't have to worry about the lifters and rockers at all, factory rollers can't go much better - although you might be able to change the rocker ratio - depends on the cam specs, though.
not all sure on what specs work best, especially with our GA setups (that damn T45E tranny . . . ), try to work with the motor's midrange especially, that's where our trannies seem to respond best.
anyways, I'd recommend going with the LS1 springs, honestly, just to cut out the valve float at high RPM's - and honestly, if you're looking at a mild to moderate cam, it would really benefit to preferably throw on some 3500 heads and manifolds (ported and all, especially), or to have the 3400 heads and manifolds ported out and matched.
A recommendation on the TB, though . . . check with some local machine shops and see if anyone has the capability to bore it out and cut & fit a new throttle plate for you. Should be able to get it done at a reasonable price, honestly. Although the most the stock TB can be bored is 60mm, it's still better than the stock 56mm. I was able to get my bored and fit for $80.N-body enthusiast:

well i want smooth idle and no real loss of vacuum, i just want my engine to breathe better. i thought that more lift with good LSA and better springs/retainers would be ok, but am i wrong. i would like the titanium retainers and the 3500 springs, so i dont have to make any extra provisions, i may have to replace the valve seals, and IIRC id have to use the late model 3100 seals right? just looking for a good grind with good gains, but no idle/lope probs and enough vacuum to keep my brakes and other vacuum assisted accessories.
also arent the 3500 springs almost the same as the ls6 springs...

3500's are stronger that LS1, not the same as LS6. neither springs need to have the heads modified to fit. you just need the right spring seats and seals for your valve stems.

no you need seats, because the head is aluminum, you need a hard surface for the spring to sit on otherwise it will chew the hell out of the head.
the 03+ 3400 and 3500 head seals and seats are exactly the same

Search the board someone listed all the parts needed for a pre 03 head... basically you cant use any stock 3100 or 3400 seats or seals... its peiced together from a few different things.

That might help
My info was wrong then they changed the guides in approx 2000... so you can use exactly what I ended up using.
All the info is still in that post though.Last edited by 3400-95-Modified; 01-29-2007, 02:56 PM.

I liked the tight fit on the guide, it made me feel like I dont have to worry about them moving around ever... And they should seal very well.

but the 88 toyota seats will work ok on mine then, and either the 2.2 or the 318 seals and thats it? neato, now sappy i just need a price on the titanium retainers, or a p/n and ill be good to go.
also when i put the p/n off that other thread 12586484 it shows as they are the same as the LS2 springs, are those the new style LS6 springs that i saw on here are a diff design that wont fit, only the 03 and older springs will fit???
