I just bought a 96 beretta with a 3100. What are some good upgrades? I already have a short ram intake, 8.8 wires, and summit coils. I havent put my dynomax on yet though. Also does anyone know if it is better to eliminate the maf sensor, (not ait sensor) mine has both, or buy a jet maf sensor?

With 185k on the clock either rebuild or buy a shortblock 1st. No need in buying thousands in parts and then boom it blows. But if you want to mod it 1st then do the easy stuff like porting the intake, bigger TB or make it faster by making it lighter. None of these will give you 50hp or even 25, but it will make it quicker and be easy on he motor compared to other mods. What are your mechanical skills? I would do a dual TB intake or a performance cam, but I am not sure if that is over your head

Yeah leave the MAF and sensors alone. Until you learn more (search!) you can do a full exhaust. 2.25" or 2.5" all the way back mandrel bent with a high flow cat and dynomax sounds good.
Since yours is a 96, you have ODBII, so you can get a DHP or powertunr and tweak the computer for your modifications to your hearts content.
Guys with the 94-95 3100's can't edit their computer at all, so consider yourself lucky in that regard!! A car with mods and a computer adjusted to work with them will be faster than a car with the same mods and no computer adjustments. The computer can only adjust so much, so a lot of changes and you don't get the optimal tune unless you can tweak it yourself.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

oil pump slowly dying... But probably lifters or something valvetrain related.

Could be the piston slap some people have. It will sound like lifters. Also the injectors can make noise too. If the computer is retarding the timing from it though, you will lose performance. You could try to run a little trans fluid in the oil and see if that helps anything. 56k miles on a 96 isn't very many so it may need to loosen up a bit.Ben

91 is a breeze. I tune those or if you want to tune it yourself, get a laptop, google "freescan" (should be andywhittaker.com) and get that, go to moates.net and get the burn1 and aldl cable for OBD1. Download tunerpro from moates.net and then get the A1.ecu file from our downloads > tuning files section. Search the forums for computer tuning questions or go to thirdgen.org and check their tech section for the ECM tuning write up. It relates but isn't exactly like our setup.
btw, name is sappy and these are 100% engines in 60*V6 formBen
