has anyone determined what year make and models had the forged crank?

good... lol i just called gm and my parts lady run a search for me on the 7484 part number and these are the vehicles that she said have them....

If they do not have 7484 as the end of their part number they are CAST IRON. The 7484 is steel and that's what makes it stronger. I'm not sure where the forged idea came from. When I sorted this out months ago with GM parts direct I was informed of the weight difference which I posted on here somewhere being about 5 lbs between the cast crank and the steel crank and that's how I was able to make the 7484 association which was stamped on both of my cranks.Originally posted by wasas9 View Post
The cranks are not exclusive to any 3500 vehicle from what I have observed and if you check GM parts direct you'll find both numbers listed for pretty much all of the applications. GM helped us out by putting the number on the end of the crank so that simply removing the balancer bolt would reveal this information before your purchase.Comment
