  • how to increase top speed

I have a 96 chevy lumina with a 3100 v6 I was wondering how to get the computer in the car let me Go past 105mph I want to be able to go fast in a "granny car" so far I have a staight pipe I was thinking about taking out the cat and puting in a cherry bomb class pack but I want to go over 105mph

You should think safety before speed. Chances are you don't have performance oriented shocks/struts, sway bars, lower riding height for a lower center of gravity, sway bars, polyurethane bushings or new rubber bushings.

dont forget about speed limits.... no offense...but that car isnt hooked up enough to go over 105... nor will it ever go over 105 with out help from dhp.. and i kinda wish they didnt allow everyone to have access to the speed limiter.. youll run out of hp around 110 anyway..

yes even if you had a place to go this fast, that granny car is a boat and won't be very stable at high speeds, and also, it's heavy, and not very aerodynamic as say compared to an L body with suspension mods...

Not to sound like a parent or anything, but crashes suck, let alone ones past 70mph.

Don't take out the cat either if that is your daily driver and not a race-only vehicle. There's no point. You gain all of 1-2hp between that and a high flow cat... big whoop. Get a high flow cat if you're looking for improvement in that area. Don't pollute!

As for the speed governor, since you have a '96 3100 you should be able to get a DHP powrtuner or HPtuners and either one of those will allow you to custom program your engine and remove the governor. Just think about where you plan to actually run that fast and the shape of the rest of your car first! Suspension like everyone else said, and don't forget about brakes! It's hard to stop from 105mph if your brakes overheat.

94-95 was the gray ODB1.5 years. 96 was first year of ODBII.

Don't forget tires rated for the speed you want to go. Having a blow out at triple digit speeds won't be fun.

I wouldn't want to go that fast in that year, stock w body.... pretty unsafe.

Once he gets the limiter offline he can go as fast as the engine can handle. Although if "he" tunes it incorrectly well he can literally drive the engine until something goes. Also to go over 105 you'll want a new suspension depending on what you want 600-1200. H or Z rated tires 300-800. Ebiach lowering springs i think 250. Plus the DHP tuner 410 unless you have it tuned somewhere probably 100. Plus you can get sway bars i'm not sure whats out there but about 400 for 2. It depends on how those are setup. After all that feel free to do w/e you want.

you wont hit 100mph in the 1/4 unless you are boosted

i wouldnt say that. a couple guys (treez24 comes to mind) have run over 100mph in the 1/4 n/a. granted that was in a lighter car, but its still possible with an n/a motor.
