  • 2 Questions about my LH0.

I am swapping my 3.1/5 speed out of my rotted '92 Cavy Z24 into my '94 RS 4 door. As you know, since the 3.1 is out, I figured I should do some work to it such as head gaskets, oil pan gasket, crank sensors, main seal, and stuff like that.

I heard a 3400 cam in my 3.1 will yield 15hp, true? If this don't work, are there any little pointers to do to make it a little more powerful?

And my second question is, I have dibs on a 3.4 out of a 93 camaro, should I swap all my 3.1 stuff onto the 3.4 heads and block, and will it yield enough HP to make it worth it? Also, I am currently not in the market for a total engine swap, so this is all I have to work with.

3400 cam is roller. Your stock cam is flat tappet. I would just get an aftermarket cam if anything.

The 3.4 is iron head so your intakes won't swap onto it. You would have to use the block and put your heads and intakes on it.

Wow what a quick response. Well, are the 3.4 heads close to being similar to the 3.1 heads flow wise?

And I figured the cam wouldn't work, I heard that one from my diphead friend.

I don't remember what the iron heads flow but its nothing amazing. Gen 2 aluminum heads don't flow that great either though and the manifolds suck more.

I would suggest the gaskets, but the iron heads suck compared to the aluminum ones. The 3x00 vs 3.4 has pros and cons. Roller cams are way better than flat tappet cams, but they are way more expensive and harder to come by. Flat tappet cams like in the 3.4 are a dime a dozen, almost all the cam companies make a few for the 2.8-3.4
