Well someone currently told me there was no point in getting a new trans because i should not have that kindof power i'm to young. So what other mods should i do? Ive installed a CAI and PCM. So what should my next project on the 3100 be? Its a V6 malibu. So suspension and what to do? or engine parts ect.... i honestly have no idea what to do next.

nitrous, cam or custom intake manifold/custom exhaust. Don't do anything that won't show real gains. Or better yet buy a Fiero...hahahaha.Clean Feet Pet Clean Up

your not to young, just not expeirienced enough for a 540hp fwd 3100 v6 that will "eat vipers"
like i said, do it little by little and learn as you go... this is a great way to build your skill as a driver and is prolly the best way to mod because you'll be more connected to your car
like i said, build your car as you build your skill

Well diablo when i said that i didnt mean i was gonna go take out a loan and build a bu with 540 hp. I meant that as an end result. Right now i'm looking to go to kilkare in ohio and get some times and dragging experience in. I'm going to a drag track with a MALIBU. lol so itll tell you how far i'm willing to go with this. I will get some really bad stares but ow well lol. As for the next mod i guess its either doing a big job of redoing the CAM, UIM, LIM, and TB or a NOS setup from mark. I suppose i'll worry about the trans till later.

and no, you said you were going to ask your parents for $3500 for a trans
first, thing you really need to do though as i said before is learn a little more about how an engine works... hell, do an engine change and change your spark plugs... good first steps into the car world...

diablo remember lol i just put iriduim denso spark plugs in her. The engine is fine lol i just spent 3 hours putting the CAI together and making sure there were NO leaks. That engine is fine. New plugs and MSD wires. Plus a new Everlast Gold Battery. I dropped 300 just into electrical. I understand the basics of an engine but being around people who know and learning from them beats the hell out of reading forums 24 hours a day. I cant get an accurate reading on what my times should even be from all the drag calculators it estimates between 14 seconds and 16 seconds. Also what class is the bu even in?Last edited by Tdunk; 01-09-2007, 11:19 PM.

Dude you must be like 16 or 17? You just sound young & naive..no offense.
Let us help you. 1st you won't run a 14 second pass in the 1/4 probably not even a 16 to be honest....you have an economy/family car.
If you want to make a custom intake manifold I can help...it really is easy if you know what to tell the welder. I don't weld and don't plan to, but there are people that do it for a living. So I design it and they build it.
CAIs really don't do much at all..throttle response increase but no real #s. It all boils down to the intake manifold...mainly.
Iridiums aren't worth anywhere near what they cost so in the future spend your money on the regular ole NGKs.
"being around people who know and learning from them beats the hell out of reading forums 24 hours a day"..........no offense, but what do you think we do, we mod our cars and talk about it so others can learn from our improvements or failures. No you won't gain hands on experience, but you will gain alot of insight from us.
Now the air is clear...if you want to go faster than scratch the rims idea unless you get some that weight less and aren't too big, but racing wheels are expensive. I would put nitrous on your car because it is the cheapest power adder. Tires do make alot of difference but don't buy them from a shop because they will mark them up 30-50%. I run Falken Ziex 512s and if you know about thhem they were #1 for all performance tires. They were only $250 from Discount Tire Direct w/ the lifetime warranty. Cams help a ton because right now your car is still set up for soccer moms. Gotta remember you are turning a family car into a dragster.
I am not trying to talk shit, I am just trying to see what you want as an end result and show that forums are not the end all solve all but it is the easiest way to talk to people that have your same interest and the same engine. Sorry if this post has been offensive.Last edited by fivepointhustla; 01-10-2007, 02:27 AM.Clean Feet Pet Clean Up

around here... your around some of the most knowledgable people to ever work on a 60 degree v6.. there are guys on here that know all the specs off memory so dont try and say a drag strip will teach you... ive heard a lot of complete BS spread around at drag strips
your class would prolly be a stock production class since you dont have much done.... you might be able to break into the 16's at low altitude and with some nice cool air and a warm, well preped track... a stock bu can break into the 16's in decent conditions but a lot of guys run a low 17... what calculators are you using?

I wish we had more people on here that have done custom type stuff and have pushed the engines to more extremes. Hands on experience rules but its a lot more expensive than someone else doing it and telling you it doesn't work. Unfortunately I like to see for myself as well so its still expensive, even when I know it likey isn't going to work no matter what I do.
A stock malibu runs 17s? All 3100s? What FDR?Ben

No not offensive at all and yes i am 17. I am a little nieve i'll admit, but its a possibility and i'd like to see the 3100 pushed to its limits. Also i have a CAI and PCM tuned. The rims i wanted to get were 17in. They should be lighter than my steelies. and Ben what were you talking about it likely isn't going to work no matter what i do? THen the calculators i'm using well go to google and type in 1/4 mile calculator. I tried all those and they ranged from 14-16. Total weight of my bu is 3230 with me and it should be gettiing a decent 160-180hp somewhere in there. lol and i didnt mean i couldnt learn from a forum its just sitting in front of a computer screen isnt the way i feel... is the best way to learn no offense to you guys.Last edited by Tdunk; 01-10-2007, 09:19 AM.

roller timing chain, rocker arms I have tried, lifters, etc. Nothing specific for what you are doing. I was telling you why you can learn more from the forum unless you have the resources to do everything hands on. If so, go for it, and take pics along the way for the rest of us that can't afford to do it all.Ben
