  • vvt setup

i was wondering if anyone had picks of the front of the vvt motors i would like to see what it would take to get rid of the vvt unit and put a regular cam in it, the vvt unit is worhtless to performace and i think it can easily be removed like the ford and toyota vvt units, any pics you guys can send would be helpfull in igureing everything out.

    Not quite that easy...

I doubt the 3900 thread does any justice for revealing how difficult it will be since the VVT for the 3900 is hydraulicly actuated and that for the 3.6L is electric and involves 4 camshafts and potential valve damage if you don't get it right. In the 3900 retard and advance is limited to prevent interference from occuring short of a timing chain failure. If you could do it fairly reasonably it would be a tremendous accomplishment.

it can and has been done very simply before on other engines, the computer does NOT advance the cam, it retards it to remove NOX simuler to a egr valve, the unit makes it so that the cam can be set up more for power than for emmisions and then the computer can retard it to help help fight NOX. on most VVT engines you can plug the oil feed and return holes from the soliniod and change the cam gear to remove the VVT unit, the only other things that you have to do is degree the engine to check cam postion. the VVT unit has not help in making the engine build more power just remove emmisions. what i need is some pics of the front of the engine and the vvt unit so that i can figure out if this engine will be easy to remove the VVT unit from this engine. if any one can help with this please let me know.

That doesn't help at all, I NEED PICS OF THE FRONT OF A REAL ENGINE AND THE PARTS WITHIN. the auto show pics do not show anything,

Well, go get some yourself. Go to a dealership, take one for a test drive and take some pictures. Its not like any of us have one of these sitting in our garage... Its your idea, take the initiative to do something.

The VVT allows a broader torque curve than with fixed cam timing. It is more than just emissions.

racer x11 the reson it produces a flater torque curve is because it retards a larger cam profile to reduce compression pressureto reduce NOX, and the affect of taht is more low end torque, i have had classes with some of GM's enginers and they will all tell you the reason we have this tech is because the manufactors have to meet certain emmisions requirments, and 99% of the time if you can make an engine more effecint it will produce morepower and less emmisons, and bszopi how am i suposded to know tahat no one has one of these motors with out asking, and taking photos at teh dealer will not be of anyhelp, i need to see the internal of the engine, obivuosly you have no understanding on how any of these vvt setups work, just for the hell of it i'm going to have to figure out how to disable thsi unit just so i can show you how simple thses things are.

Wow... ok, first learn how to type. Next, you asked for pics of the front of the engine. You never said you need to see the internals of the engine.

I provided you what you asked for. But since it seems like you are too lazy to look through the first link I posted, I'll go ahead and do all the work for you and place the pictures in this thead. Would you like me to buy an engine for you as well and donate it for your cause?
