  • exhaust valve part number needed

I need the GM part number of the exhaust valve from the 3400 2001 heads I'm using for the head swap. The guy at the dealership gave me the wrong part number and I didn't have the heads with me (stupid), so I bought the wrong valve. Anyone know the correct part # for the large exhaust valve?

gmpartsdirect.com should have the numbers listed. I don't think the part changed till the 3500 (same diameter, lighter weight).

Everything on GMpartsdirect shows the exhaust valve as 10166342, which is what I bought from the dealership. That valve is the same size as the intake valve with a seat approximately 3.5 cm in diameter The exhaust valves in the new heads I got have the same stem size, but are much larger with a 4.5 cm diameter seat. I cannot find any alternate part numbers anywhere, everything seems to be the one above.

This is very frustrating as these were brand new preloaded factory heads. I've had the local dealership call GM to investigate the casting number in the heads and even GM doesn't know what the large seat exhaust valves are. They show these heads being used for all kinds of things including 01 Century, 03 Aztek, 03 Montanna, 03 Venture and all of these go back to the 342 part number above.

I'm going out of my mind trying to get something that should be standard.

The 3400 uses a 1.42" exhaust valve. I have no idea what a large diameter exhaust valve would be for stock replacement. Order one for a 96 3100 if you need to. Its all the same.

aparently you were not sold the correct heads then... there was no large seat exhast valve IIRC... as Ben is saying they are all the same size, only the intake valve changed and that was just slightly and then on the 3500's they got redesigned to something lighter.

I think in my newbiedom I've had the intake and exhaust valves backwards. I ordered an intake valve and will see if that's what I've been needing.
