  • looking for lope

well I was planning on running the 272, and almost bought it from summit tonight, but to my dismay, another fiero owner told me he has no lope with that cam.
if the comp cams 260h has lope with less lift, then why doesnt the crane 272?

does anyone here have the 272 and have a decent lope at idle?

anyone have a comparison of the 260H to the 272? which will make the better power up top? which will give me the lope sound?

I hate to say it, but if im going to buy a cam, the sound of it at idle is just as important as the preformance. besides going fast and sounding good go hand in hand...imo.

Good question, why would a wilder cam have no lope? Cause it does? Cause the guy you talked to is idling at 1500? I dunno but there are more ways to get a lope. Have a 12 year old go crazy with a die grinder to your heads.

not exactly the answers i was looking for....

maybe your right on his idle, or maybe he didnt actually get the cam he paid for????

do you have the crane 272? does it lope in your vehicle? maybe this guys cheese slid off the cracker.....

a 12y/o going crazy on a set of heads with a die grinder...that could be bad. i dont think lope is that important to me, and im sure there are better ways to get lope than that. thats kinda funny though.

      i found a formula....overlap= intake duration + exhaust duration/2 - 2X(lsa). (gm hitech performance apr 2006)
using the 260h and the 272, the 260h has 4* of overlap vs the 272 has -2* of overlap. explains the lack of lope.

Yeah, 272 should have a lope to it. I know the 260 does and I know my old lunati cam was smooth as glass.

The 3.1 has killer velocity though so if you do the heads proper, it won't lope as much as if you hog it out and do what you think will make it "bad ass". Thats why my engine was smooth as glass when I got it. The shop ported them but I thought it wasn't enough so later on I tore them off and "ported' them on a bench in my apartment with a dremel. Let me tell you how bitchin that was. I lost my low end, I had more lope. That was 1998

so what your saying is hogging is bad, and the velocity is good. so your suggesting a well ported set of heads will have no lope, or little lope?

Its not the only factor for lope so no, its not going to have no lope or little lope on a wild cam. I was just telling you that if its hogged out, you will get more lope.

what value of duration are you using? Duration at 0.050 or adv. duration?

aftermarket (.050)...my formual wasnt specific...and i didnt see why it would matter...im re-thinking that.

but 2* of overlap sounded right...and -4* of closed time in between sounded right too.... maybe i was wrong?

the only way I came up with an accurate # is like this:

                    ((int dur + exh dur)/4) - LSA= value *2= result

this net me -10 degrees overlap on my cam.

                    formula found at: http://www.mx6.com/forums/archive/in.../t-134786.html

it looks similar, but im to lazy to use both formulas on one cam to see the net results. reading the article again i should have used the durations at .006 or SAE. and again im too lazy to look up the specs right now. 24hr duty yesterday, ill do the math later. good catch though, i may be way off on my guestamation.
