Yes, that should fix the problem. IIRC, Russell's hood still came in contact with the 3400 plenum, but not enough to affect anything.

I'm not sure this will help, but I moved the alternator for the factory location to the location where the A.I.R. pump was:

The alternator was actually from a FWD genII 660, I used "1990 Cavalier" as a replacement alternator, the only variation that I know of between the genII alternators was a possible pulley size difference.

          92ratt10,

So you went to collage for this stuff? Are you ready to unlearn what they taught you?

I have used various Camaro and even some FWD PCMs that are direct plug ins for the L32 (Camaro 3.4L V6) with 5 speeds behind them, no autos yet. Anyways, amost all of these have been run without any VSS. So, we get a few miles per gallon worse? My 1982 S10 long box with the 3.4L SFI and a 5 speed gets between 22-24 MPG. Maybe it would get 28mpg if I added the VSS but never tried. It would cut my top speed down too much! Most of the MGBs we install the driveline in use a rear axle ratio that makes it a poor choice to use with a VSS otherwise you could end up having a speed limiter kick in at a much lower speed.

As for the upper end off the FWD, always sounds interesting I would love to see GM start using the new 3500 and 3900 in RWD format at some point. The L32 is so nice because its an easy install for too many reasons and the large displacement. A newer version of this would be great, but until then the 3.4L seems to be the easiest to retrofit into anything with the FWD offering a bit more power, but at more time/costs.

I too am looking for someone who hacks the OBD 1.5 from the 93-95 systems for a little bit more programming but in stock format, they do well.

            Hi there!

VSS is used for a lot of things. It's used for idle control, shift-assist and stall-saver for manual transmissions, EGR control, DFCO, cooling fan control, and a few other things that have slipped my mind. It really is worth using, and it's a simple change in the programming (in the MPI and TBI systems) to both make the VSS match your final drive ratio and (for MPI systems) to eliminate the speed limiter.
