You could just make a couple brutal welds were metal hangs threw to the inside of you exhast creating little red hotspots from the hot exhast blasting past, then if there is any fuel it will ignite once it passes that point.. or if you have a real rank ignition system without changing ur plugs to cooler ones, or just changing up to hot ones u can glow ur manafolds and that will also ignite the excess fuel.. but if there is a cat on it I doubt any of these will work, thus a cat burns the unburnt fuel inside it.. Or u can retard ur timing abunch.. Or u can richen up the air/fuel mix..
BTW all of these decrease power/efficiency for the most part and I dont recomend trying any of them. I have just learnt all of these ways from the untuned cars we've fixed in the past..

true, but just chop the cat off get a setup close to the flamer thrower kit and ur good i am sure there will be enough unburnt fuel in there to light

russ, i think your speedo just might be fine. it's just the camera angle making things read slower. if i remember, 6K in first is 30mph, in 2nd 50, and 3rd 80? been a long time. you wanna find out? do 60MPH for a mile by the road mile markers--not your odometer--and if you record 60 seconds in between the markers, then it's right on. ya know, 60MPH=1 mile per second.

With the gearing in the J-body 5 speed & stock size tires...

                            Speed at 6k RPM
                            1st - 34.92 MPH
                            2nd - 59.60 MPH
                            3rd - 88.56 MPH
                            4th - 130.10 MPH
                            5th - 170.29 MPH

Little calculator I had made... http://efi.moonwell.com/gears.php

It is fun being able to rev to 6500 & do 0-60 in 2nd gear
