  • 3100 cam swap

i have a 95 olds ciera and i found a lunati cam online. is this just a direct swap or are there modifications needed to any part of the car, including the pcm?? any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is only one place that makes an aftermarket cam for the 3x00s, and its not Lunati. For $425 (or so), you can get one from Milzy Motorsports. Or you can get a regrind of a stock cam from pretty much any of the cam companies for around $100.

As far as a direct swap once you get a cam that will work, it's pretty straight forward. There is always different length pushrods, although they aren't 100% necessary. Tuning the PCM would also be ideal, but with a 95 you are pretty much SOL since there is no option for that year...

Went to your link, and here is what I found...

Just a few things I noticed... There are supposedly 3 different options for 2 different engines (4-cyl and 6-cyl), but they all have the same part number and description. If you look at the description, it lists a 4/7 swap, which IIRC is a timing swap cam for an 8-cyl. It also lists it as a solid roller cam, which would not be a streetable cam IMO. I think there were a few other things, but I think that should be enough to convince you...

It says its for the 3.1L, not the 3100 (although most aftermarket suppliers still refer to the 3100 as a 3.1L). First off, the stock 3100 cam is a hydraulic roller, whereas the one you found is a hydraulic flat tappet cam. Big difference. Although it could be said that the cam just isn't in the right position in the picture, it doesn't have the cam sensor trigger on it either.

For the price of the Milzy cam, the gains aren't worth the cost. You could actually buy an aftermarket stock replacement cam and send it off to get reground to better specs for about half the cost. Or, if you could have your car down for a ocouple weeks, just pull out your existing cam and send it off for a quarter of the cost. If you really want to know the gains, just do a search for Milzy and cam and you can read what people have said. I would say just visit their website (www.milzymotorsports.com), but they lack any information worth a damn...

any ideas for cheap/simple performance mods(that would gain more than 1 or 2HP) for my 95 ciera???

Take a 0 off that, you can get 3400 heads for about $100. Then a 3400 lower/upper may cost ya another $75-100 from a JY. Get some gaskets then, and your perty much set.
