  • Swapping from Dex-Cool to the green stuff

So after reading about the class action lawsuit against gm for the problems caused by dex-cool I want to flush my sustem and swap over to the green stuff. How would I go about doing a flush and my engine has 110k miles on it would there be any reprocussions due to swapping over this many miles in?

Use the new yellow stuff. Works in both systems.

I have always used Prestone. They only make one version now, good for all motors.

Follow this procedure from GM http://members.shaw.ca/betterthanyou...xcoolflush.htm
But of course dont fill with Dexcool. If you live where it never freezes use distilled or filtered water and Redline Water Weter and forget the antifreeze.

Dexcool eats away plastic in the system, usually eats away the lower intake gaskets in the 3100's and 3400's. It also creates tons of deposits in the coolant passages. my 3400 had around 30K on it (2002) and i ran tap water with powdered water softener through it for a week... flushed the system 4 times and chunks of red crap were still coming out.

          I have some pics somewhere...

Dexcool is crap, hence the lawsuit

Thats gonna be several hundred dollars. Don't waste your time. Make sure the stock one is clean and you will have more than enough cooling.

you can get an idea of some of the crud from this pic...

                (1.0 MB)

it was that and this slimey white/pink stuff... never got it all out even after a coolant flush.

It's going in for a dip in the hot tank in December, hopefully that'll fix it
