  • How to find TDC

How would i go about finding TDC (Top dead center) on my engine?

    Specs 93 3.1

It is a brand new engine being built up... all the parts were taken apart and cleaned... i wasn't the one that took the timing chain off... so it never got marked, how would i find out where to do the timing right?

Stock cam, stock everything... nothing performance. Also no lifters are installed in the block yet, no heads are on it... just a short block at the moment.

Also can i re use my old Pushrods? none are bent... and the ones that were on this engine are quite dirty and rust/whatnot.

    Thanks

So what this is saying is match up the cam's alignment pin on the side, then the cam and sprocket down the middle...

and the key is a tooth over right?

I will show this to my buddies dad who is supposedly going to help me... im just trying to learn with what little i know haha.

Also the timing chain sprocket and everything is not on the engine yet... lol

so once i get home tonight i will get that put on. then i should be good to go till i get my gaskets.

Gotta get this car done by monday morning... needs to be running then... New job

It is hard to see in that picture, but there is a dot on one of the teeth of the crank gear. And then there is the hole in the cam gear. Basically you just need to make sure the dot is aligned with the hole and you are good to go.
