  • Noisy Lifters, Should Replace?

I recently bought a 85 S15 Jimmy with 133,000 Miles on it. I rebuilt the transmission and it runs great but, I had a sticky lifter. Put some transmission fluid in the oil and drove it. Now I am getting a noise from the other bank from a lifter. I adjusted the the rocker arms like it says in the manual, still no help. Should I replace them all?

Why did you run tanny fluid?

Try some seafoam if you do not feel it is necessary to gut the engine. Pour in the seafoam with regular oil and drain it after 500 miles or so.

Trans fluid is an excellent cleaner. It'll free up sticky lifters, decarbonize combustion chambers...it's good stuff, really.

Well I'd never use it thats all I have to say. Personally I dont like any "fix in a bottle" so thats probabally why.

The fix it stuff is partly trans fluid, and its a proven method for engines that have sat for a while. Trans fluid is also used in the injector cleaners in a very small amount.

As for the lifters, I would think about replacing them at that milage with them showing problems. They are all used up most likely. The cam may be worn down some as well but that is up to you if you want to replace it at the same time.
