  • Never thought it could happen to me...

I hear all of these problems about people doing things to their W bodies and not being able to diagnose what the hell is wrong so I guess it is inevitably my turn to get stuck. I put a new 3100 in my 96 olds cutlass sl and it starts but misses bad and gives the code P0300 multiple misfires detected. I don't know how to diagnose this code. I checked the wires from the coilpacks to the wiring harness, the coil wires to the plugs and packs, could there be that many plugs filthy enough to foul that many cylinders??? Or is my wiring entirely wrong somehow in the harness??? Any ideas for diagnostic steps?

I've dealt with that multiple misfire code on two different 3100's, with two different vehicles. When my '96 achieva set that code, the plug wires were shot. I swapped the back three with three from my '85 ford truck, and it ran better... so I put a whole set on it and it took care of the problem.

The second time I ran across this code was on my '01 lumina... it was a wierd situation. The damn thing would miss whenever the engine was wet- like if I washed the engine or even if it rained out and things were damp. I dumped some water on it and got it to miss in the dark, and I could see arcing at the injector wire connectors. Had to take the upper intake off... squished all the connectors full of silicon grease and no more misfire.

Are all your plug wires in order?

How 'new' is the 3100 that you just installed? Have you done any work to it?

I assume the plugwires are known good because I drove the donor car with no misfiring immediately before the swap, and the entire engine was pulled as one piece from the trans on the donor car. Truth be told, it was quite damp from the backyard coolant flush performed shortly before startup. I should have checked for spark first before I went asking questions willy-nilly.
I'll throw the oscilloscope on the old cunt tomorrow. Just sorta suprised at the code I saw, because it was so vague about which cylinders to look at. Thanks for the input.

I've screwed up before, so have all of us on here. You aren't the first, and you won't be the last.. :P

          Glad it's fixed.

BTW, the stupidest question, is the one you don't ask.
If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

I have no fans or A/C when the A/C is set to MAX or at any other time. Can I please have wiring diagrams for a 96 olds cuntless sl. This sucks.
