  • removing heads from a 92 3.1 ironhead, how hard is this guys

ive never done such a thing but i know i'll have plenty of help from people that have, but until then im curious to know from you guys, how hard is this to do? ive done this many times on quads & bikes, but they were all OHC & im curious as to how much extra work pushrods are gonna be to line up & all when i go to put the shit back on... if i can pull this off i want to pull the heads, check all of the valves to make sure that they are sealing good & that none are bent (do some valve lapping & such if necessary), & clean the ports/have them ground by a machinist friend for added power if possible). also, this may be a dumb question but would it be possible to fit 350 valves in this if i had the heads modified to fit them (& had the valves cut down to the height of the stock 3.1 valves because im willing to bet that 350 valves are much bigger). please guys, any help would be very much appreciated, if i can get this thing to run better it will save me from having to get rid of such a gorgeous car...

i just took a look at the underside of a 3.1 head & im gonna have to guess that the whole 350 valve thing wouldnt work without a SHITLOAD of effort if even possible, anyone got answers for my other question though?

      im stalking you

350 valves most likely wont fit, i think the stems are the same size, but the lenght is different and the valve heads will probly hit each other and thats if they fit side by side in the bore. we have guide plates that take care of lining the pushrods up, and the rockers have a socket where the end fits in. its no big deal.

monday is big work day for me. i will be doing brakes with brother on his car, then we are tearing my 2 motors apart. the gen2 with aluminum heads in the garage, and the gen1 mpfi (very similar to your motor) in the car. i'll take pictures.
