  • Best way to clean out the "gunk"?

My gasket project is this weekend. I have the Fel-Pro gasket kit, oil pump "O" ring, new bolts, oil, and filter. What is the best way to clean the "green snotty" looking stuff in the engine? Back in the old muscle car days we would add a quart of tranny fluid, drive the thing 1-2 miles and change the oil and filter. Will this work on this 3400? If there is a better way please let me know.

Also, I have pickued up from several of the posts that the DEXCOOL is not the best answer for coolant. Can I just flush the system with lots of water and refill with regular antifreeze/coolant?

    Thanks in advance...........

A plain ol' flush with water, then add green antifreeze... that should work fine.

As for the engine mayonaise... you're on your own there- there's no GOOD way to do it. Change that oil at least a couple times.

I reckon the ATF would work just as well in that engine as any other... though I'm not sure it'd be any more effective than a plain oil change.
