My alternator went out the other day. I decided to replace it with a 100.00 alternator w/3 year warranty. I guess GM decided to put the bolt in from the front and the main bracket. I did not have enough room thusly I had to take off the bracket and the studs which took quite abit of time. No room for a ratchet. So I reassembled with the bolt through the back not the front for next time. My alt light would flicker and the car ran like it was down on power, wouldn't shift quite right. After the new alt was put in the car runs like a dream! Idles great and the 2 quarts of quickshift with type F makes the transmission shift great! Very snappy. I guess if the voltage reg. is bad it sends erratic voltage to the PCM. Anybody ever experience this? I'm very happy with my car now!

Question: Can the alternator cause driveabililty problems?

More than likely the rectifier was bad and you were getting AC voltage. This will majorly fuck up the ECM. It wont damage it at all because the ECM is protected by its power supply unit. But while the output voltage is shitty you will have problems.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
