  • Changing Thermostat

Hey guys, here's another one for ya, I'm about to change the thermostat on my van (96 Lumina APV, 3400SFI), and according to the dealer parts guy, there's no gasket for the thermostat housing, there's only a lip seal that goes around the circumference of the thermostat itself, and that does the sealing.

Does anybody here have any experience with these thermostats at all, and remember if there's a gasket for the housing or not?

The gasket is the lip seal, which is just a piece of rubber that goes on the outside edge of the thermostat itself. Does a pretty good job from my experience and makes it easy to install. Hope that helps.

So I don't need to go and hunt down a housing gasket for it then? Cuz there are actually some available at cheap auto part stores, which I found kind of weird.
