  • coolant leak

Hello. I have a question about my 96 corsica? I'm not to sure about this and I'm hoping you can answer this: is it possible to have a cooloant leak from timing cover gasket? It was only leaking when car cooled off but now it leaks all the time. At first I though it was the LIM gasket but not sure. I haven't pulled anything apart because I'm uncertain where its coming from. Can any1 help me? Thanks!

the timming cover gasket can be leaking but i would put blame on the intake gaskets or the water pump before the timming cover, it is pretty rare the timming covers leak. how many miles are on it.

the car has almost 132k on it. the leak comes from the bolt near the belt tensioner on the timing cover gasket but i guess until i take it apart i wont be sure so i cant rule out the lim but i know its not the water pump, i've watched it leak out.

it mite be the timming cover i don't think the intake could find it's way in that area, i think it would only run behind the timming cover.

I resealed the timing cover on my car 3 times. I replaced the cover on the last one and it still leaked so my guess is my block was warped or cracked.

Did you put thread sealer on the bolts when you installed the cover?

Ok to answer the the 1 question i haven't replaced anything yet cause i was waiting to tear it down a bit, but after taking out alt and alt bracket i can see that its clearly leaking from lim and its running down the side of timing cover which is why at first i thought it was the timing cover gasket. its been leaking for 2 days straight and i havent even driven or started the damn thing so off it goes to get repaired causes its to cold here in nj and i dont have the time to fix it myself. Thanks for input guys!

We were, now we're talking about coolant leaking from the lower intake manifold...a common problem for 3100s and 3400s.

well it turns out that it was both LIM and timing cover gasket. Oh the joy I'm feeling about this crap...........
