    I have an 83 firebird with 2.8 V6...can the rear main seal be replaced without pulling the engine???

    I believe the RMS is two piece...

    If you can get the oil pan off while its in the car, YES. Once the oil pan is off, you just have to pull the oil pump, and then the rear main cap. Slip out the old seal. Slide in the new one. and retorque the main cap and oil pump bolt.

      Looks like I will have to lift the engine up to get the pan off...

      Are there any special tools required to remove the half of the seal under the crank in the block???
