  • starting problems

hi i have an 89 oldsmobile cutlass supreme with a 3.1L v6 and 241K miles, i recently got the car (which ran great) and now it has alot of trouble starting, sometimes i have to open the throttle a little bit to keep it running and it backfires. once the car starts the SES light comes on. i get a code that tells me MAP circuit high, could my problem be the MAP sensor or something worse.

the code says map circuit high? hmm i am not for sure what that means, but i would try replacing that first since thats the code thats being set. possible crank sensor?

        re

i found the problem, it was the icm and two coil packs. i changed them and now it runs perfectly. the map sensor is ok to.

          RE: re

Now you understand why the ICM faulted the MAP.

This changes on ECM's 91 and up to 93. MAP are more relient on vacuum in these years, but the AC sensor can fault the map, or whenever calibrated vacuum loss can not be compensated or loss of absolute pressure.
