  • 1994 3100 rocker arm adjustment

Newbe needing some help.I just had my heads redone and I'm not sure how to set the rocker arms. The service manual says for standard non-adjustable rocker arms to torque them to 18 lb.ft. Does it matter the position of the camshaft or do you just torque them all in the same position? Also on the same page of the manaul it says service adjustable rocker arms and has a whole different procedure for the rockers? Are there two different rocker arms used for the 3100 in 1994?Mine are the stamped steel non roller arms.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have a Net Lash rocker system. If you look at the stud you will see a shoulder cut in them. On this shoulder sits the rocker ball. The purpose of the shoulder is to set the height/preload of each rocker. No manual adjustment needed just torque em.

Thanks for the replies.Well I torqued them all to 18 ft pounds and all the springs compressed(some more than others)so that means all my valves are open?My rocker balls dont sit on a shoulder, they go all the way to the bottom of the stud. The nut ended up bottoming out on the rocker stud threads at 18 ft pounds. This sure doesnt seem right to me.Any ideas?Just want to make sure everything is right before I start it up.Thanks

The nut is supposed to bottom out on the shoulder.

Some valves will be open when the engine is off, just as long as not all of them are. LOL

Make sure the pushrods are sitting in the receiver ball of the lifters, if they are, turn the engine over by hand and make sure all the valves actuate properly.
