  • Very annoyin problem with my 3400

I don't think it has to do with the fact that I swapped a 3400 into my Beretta, but it started after I put it in.

    The symptoms...
    It will randomly cut out.

After a while of driving it will cut out really bad at higher speeds. after traveling about 150 miles of it cutting out really bad at about 70, it suddenly started doing it at anything about 45 miles so I had to drive 50 miles home like that. It would NOT excelerate passed that because it was so bad. It even did it pretty bad at 45. I drove a 100 mile trip the other day and about 30 miles to my destination it wouldn't let me go over 55. I figured out that it was because I got on the throttle. So on the way back home I took it easy the whole way and I easily traveled 70 mph the whole way. Although it would cut out at 75 still.

I have checked codes before and it showed a code for the rear crank position sensor which I kind of expected since that's what caused this cutting out last year with the 3100, but that was because of a bad connection. I replaced the sensor AND rewired it, I also replaced the coil packs, BUT none of that did anything.

Another thing that it does is when I'm excelerating at WOT it will feel like it is not putting all of it's power down then all of the sudden it kicks in and pulls really hard.

I have been trying to figure out this problem ALL summer so if anyone can give me a suggestion I would be VERY appreciative.

My Battery is in the trunk if that could cause anything. I Have the power and ground going all the way to the engine. It worked fine with the power going to the engine and grounded in the back last year. I changed it to the way I have it now in hopes of fixing my problem, although it didn't work...

Also, I have a 5 speed in this thing.

Grounding could very well be an issue. Ideally, the ground wire from the battery should not exceed 18". I would fix that no matter what, even if its not related to your issue. You mentioned replacing the coil packs. Was that last year when the problem occured or just recently? It almost sounds like a coil pack issue to me... Could be a deteriorating wire or even a plug problem. I would say its definately electrical though. Start with the ground wire first, then start from the plugs and go backwards looking at everything in the spark's path.

RE: Very annoyin problem with my 3400

Alright, I am going to move the battery back to the front of the car. Also this problem started after the 3400 swap, but BEFORE I swithched anything like the coil packs and sensors and such. I will be doing a lot of traveling before the summer is over, so hopefully moving the battery back up front will help. It worked fine last year with it in the trunk though.

This thing has got me so fed up, I hope I figure it out before the end of the summer. If I did, I would be so extremely happy.
