  • gots me a problem

I have a 1996 GA w/ 3100. Now when it's the air temp is cooler the car runs very well and have tonnes of power. But when the temp get's warmer the car starts to run like crap, and I lose power to the point when I tap the gas at idle the engine knocks. I've put in an injector cleaner, the MAF was cleaned new O2 sensor in bank 2, new air filter and new NKG v grooves i think or the bosch plat's. Also i hear a hiss from the engine like a vaccuum leak but can't locate it worth beans. If I were to hit the brake pedal from top to bottom multiple times in a row i notice my rpm bounce up and down sometimes stalling the engine. Does anybody have a clue what on earth is happening here... I've exhausted my local resources here, they say it's all normal because of the type of engine it is. Myself doubt that very much since it didn't do it before. HELP!!!

normal, isn't it cool how stuf that wasn't there 10,000 miles ago is now normal?

if its knocking when its hot out, your intake air temp sensor, inegrated with the MAF, is problly bad, youd have to replace the whole thing. that means you car isnt retarding the timing properly for the temperture change. its a good idea to check your knock sensor to make sure its working properly to. maybe yo have a bad section of wire somewhere if a few things arent working.

Brakes, if the booster diaphram ruptured or has a leak in it you may hear a hissing sound and it will effect the engine speed when brakes are applied, the vacuum that usually asisted in braking is now replaced by a soucre of fresh air for the motor to breathe in, in the case of my moms car, it was so much the engine would run so lean it would just die.

I figured as much... the 2nd day I had the car it wouldn't run worth beans, they cleaned the MAF and worked ok. Since I've had some problems with it and everytime i clean it, it works better. They tried to blame it on the K&N filter and the more air going though the filter causing the computer to work incorrectly. Mind you I corrected them and informed the "mechanic" that it's electronically controlled using variable air/fuel maps programed into the computer. End of conversation there. Guess I'll have to take a GM product for a drive and accidently find some new parts Not liking the shops here so... you know

This could also explain the lack of braking power I've had recenlty. Any ideas as to where to locate the leak?[/quote]

actually your k&n filter may be at fault to, if you clean it and oil it propery you may contaminate the maf and its components with the oil and it will cause problems. that was adressed all over the explorer forum i'm subscribed to. i sugjest sucking air through your k&n with a shop vac to try to remove exces oil befor you install it. maybe you don't even have to remove it from the airbox, just try to hook the vac up there, or if its a cone, maybe it fits the vac hose.

i'd like to blame it on that but i've had it for 2 years now and it happens regardless if it was K&N or FRAM
