Anyways, I doubt any of you remember me. I have since traded my 00 malibu in for a 00 camaro 3.8. Before you start flaming, I am here on behalf of a fellow F-Body/60 degree v6 owner. He is having a problem with his and I thought this is the best place to get him some help.... Here is his post from our site. If you guys can help, I would really appreciate it!!Sorry about the length....
I have been having an on going problem in my 94 3.4. A few years ago I pulled it out of storage and started driving it, after two days driving I blew a head gasket, I parked it, I finally got around to changing the gasket I put it all back together runs fine except I had a vaccume leak on my intake, I take the intake back off I find a collapsed lifter, I pull the lifter out run a indicator down the lifter lobe and check the lift on my cam and it had considerable amount of wear on it. I had someone give me an edelbrock performer cam for a 2.8 so I put that in since it was a 60 degree motor as well. I get it together and it runs like garabage. backfires under acceleration, I pull the cam back out and put in a stock replacement, still runs like crap, runs a little better now, doesnt backfire under acceleration just idles a little rough and accelerates choppy acts like it is not getting enough fuel, I change the fuel filter, I checked the fuel pressure and everything was okay. I just replaced the fuel injectors, the car is running way to rich the plugs are black. my question is someone told me that the computer needs to be reset, and it has to be taken somewhere that they can hook up to a programmer and reset it, but I always thought that on pre 96 that you just diconnect the battery and the computer would reset after a half hour. This person said that the cam that I had in it screwed up the computers settings and thats why it is running rough. I have to trouble codes or anything. Please help!
