  • Water pump replacement on 3.4

Hi, searched on this topic, but did not find too much in the archive. Tomorrow morning I am going to install a new water pump on my 3.4 crate. Turns out the pump I used back 5 years ago was off a X-11 2.8 from ~83. Kind of hard to find but I got a new Delco one today.
Anyway, if there is a way to screw this up and end up with leaks outside (or worse, inside) I will find it. I didn't install the pump originally, but having removed the old one, I see the bolts and a few nuts are of various sizes, some of which have some silicone on the shank/threads, some appear to have had thread locker. I'm going to clean all those up good.
Are there any specific things I should be doing bolting this on? I'm figuring to use a little blue Permatex on the gasket, and blue threadlocker on the bolts. Anything else, like should I be gooping the shanks of the bolts with permatex or stuff like that? I just don't want to get this all back together and have the SOB leak on me.
Does it have to sit a while after installing to let stuff cure, or can I just fill it up w/coolant and start it right away?
    Thanks for any comments.

RE: Water pump replacement on 3.4

You need to put GM pipe sealant #10953480 on the long 13mm bolts that go into the block as if you dont you will get a coolant leak.

The bolts that do not go into the coolant jackets do not need anything on them.

its a pretty straightforward procedure other than that.

Well, maybe too late but still ok. I blew out all of the holes with canned air before I bolted anything together. One of the 13mm holes obviously went clean thru into the cooling jacket of the block. Its bolt was rusty at the end too. That one I gooped with blue permatex. The others I just used blue Loctite.
Poured in the coolant after it sat for 24 hrs. So far no leaks, but I have not started up yet. Too busy today and it has rained all day anyways.
Hope she don't leak when I run her.
