Timing chain 3100

The cloyes timing set I have has no timing marks on either the cam gear or the crank gear.
I hate to assume anything anything on timing because I have been burned before. BUT
According to a tech bulletin on this web site the upper sprocket is aligned to the pip on the tensioner with a hole in the gear, the crank sprocket is aligned with the lower tensioner pip to the timing mark, which does not exist.
On many engines the keyway on the crank is the timing reference, is this the case on the 3100.
Damn, I wish I had a real shop manual available instead of the aftermarket crap-books.

The keyway on the crank is offset slightly. I just happen to have one sitting on my desk here at work (who knows why...) and the dot is 2 teeth clockwise from the keyway. For the cam gear, the dot is 90º off of the button. You can see that one in the following pic...

There is not a single indicator on any of the teeth? Thats fuckin bullshit. You call Cloyes yet?

I always recommend the stock gears and chain anyway.

If I had it to do over I would have the GM parts. Nope, no marking on any theeth of the crank sprocket. Cloyes C-3036.

is this the same for 2nd gen 3.1L motors? I would guess so.
