Somebody my dad was talking to, said he had problems with his Grand Am, and explained what it was doing, which turned out to be EXACTLY what my parents is doing.
He tried almost everything we've tried to fix it, but to no avail. The computer showed nothing. They finally changed the Digital EGR Valve, and it fixed the problem.
Could the digital EGR valve be causing this?
It's a very expensive part, so I want to be sure before we go ahead and change it.

10 or more different things can cause the problems that you are having, at this point the only option I see is testing every sensor and if they all test fine I would start going to the mechanical stuff.-Homer

I just thought of something.
Maybe a week or two before we noticed the car acting up, the car was brought to GM dealership for the Ignition Recall work. Some relay harness was installed. I'm not sure exactly what it was they did, but it was to cure something from overheating causing some cars to catch on fire *shrugs*
Could something they did be causing the problem?

Yea it is the ignition switch it was a recall on my moms 94.
Have you checked for a simple vacuum leak? I would say unplug the EGR and see what happens. I dont know how pickey these new computers are but even if the valve is new the systems controlling it may be acting up.. So if it is possible to unplug the valve and run the car do it. The ECM will throw a code but ignore it.
I love TBI. All I do is plug a vacuum hose with a nail for my EGR diagnostic.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

I was talking to the service consultant at the dealer earlier, he looked through the service bulletins and found ones that relate to my problem
1. fuel injectors getting plugged up from all the additives in Canadian Gas. Said to pull off the fuel pressure regulator and look and see if there was some brown gunk in it. If there was then there might be a bad injector. That would cause the car to run lean, which would be why there is an O2 code stored.
2. the PCM harness, where it goes through the firewall. The gasket dries up allowing water to get in which corrodes and wrecks the wires, causing driveablility problems.
3. TPS harness, theres a utility tie that holds the harness to something else, which doesn't give it enough slack to move when the engine moves, and stops he TPS from rotating freely.
He also suggested maybe trying a different PCM and see if that helps
