With DIS, the exhaust spark will jack up the electorde on bosch plugs becasue they use a finewire platnium setup. Basically they aren't designed to hold up to a "reverse spark".

Have you pulled a couple to see what's going on with the center platinum pin?

Looked perfectly fine after 20'000km when I took them out of my old 3.1L. THe 3400 also is also equiped with bosch platinums, only plugs I coudl find for that engine. Only other option were the AC delco platinums, for $20 EACH.

I also have heard that the Bosch plugs burn out fast because of the DIS.

I run AC Rapidfires in my LQ1's.

AC Delco Platinums are double platinum, you'd have to run at least Bosch +2 or +4 to replace them. That's the only reason I can figure why regular Bosch Platinums don't hold up in the newer GM vehicles. Delco Rapidfires are also (to the best of my knowledge) single platinum plugs. Champion also makes a Double Platinum plug, I don't know of any other brands that do off hand.

The Bosch +2 and +4 have the same problem. It isn't an issue of having platinum on both parts of the plug. As mentioned several times above, the problem is the reverse-polarity waste-spark of the DIS burning out the thin-wire platinum center electrode (which is present on all of the Bosch platinum plugs).

Autolite makes a double platinum plug; also known as the Platinum Pro. I have them in my 95 3100 for 80k miles now and the car still runs great and runs clean on the emissions test. The plugs have a five year, unlimited mileage guarantee.

I put these in because it was a pain to get to the rear 3 plugs, so I wanted to extend the interval till the next plug change.
