All the O-rings are installed. I switched to an air compressor to hold the valves closed, and things went a lot faster.

The real bitch is that it is back together and still sick. Highest compression is 90 psi, and there is a popping from the carb. I turned the dist 180 degrees to check for timing, and it would not even try and start that way. I have reached the end of the road with this vehicle. Its dumpster bait now.

It is a carbed, old 2.8/auto, and it needs paint. For the time and money, I can find a runner with decent paint.

I gave it one more initial valve adjust, and it runs fine now. One manual said 3/4 turn on the rocker nuts after snug. Another said 1 1/2 turns. I just set them snug and all is fine now. Compression is 135-150.
