good move doing both, that means you wont be right back in there next week. i did my entire motor when mine went, i was told when people do the heads on high mile motors the bearings cant take the topend being like new and give in.

drain the collant jacket so you dont have coolant in the cylinders when you pull the heads, it just a litle neater. make sure you have the heads checked for straightness while they are off, and only mill the minimum for striaghtness so the ports still line up. make sure each piece goes back where it came from, and dont drop anything into the cylinders. its a good idea to block the ports somehow so nothing gets in there accidentaly. DO NOT BREAK THE VACUUM LINES. be sure to seal the corners where the lower manifold and the heads/block meet real good. make sure you install the gaskets correctly, some of them say "this side up" in the corner. if they dont, i dunno, i probably put mine in wrong, but thats my problem. use new head bolts, they are torque to yeild, and the cost isnt gonna break you. besides it saves you from having to get back in there if an old head bolt streches. torque everything correctly. if they ask for sealant on stuff, use it. it shouldn't take more than a day if your fast, i'm a slacker, so i take a weekend. if you do have to have the heads milled, that will add some time into the project.

you can use a stright edge and a feeler guage set. you just put the straight edge diagonaly run the feeler along it and if it goes under it its probably a bad thing. there is an acceptable warpage limit i think, but you'll have to check that in the specification section, what ever the limit is, is the thickness feeler you want to use. good idea to check the head in about every imaginable way, diagonaly, straight across, and lengthwise.

a machine shop, anyone that does heads, or a mechanics shop should be able to do it.

get parts at NAPA, KOI, or GM. i dont like the parts i got from autozone and advance they seem to fail sooner. its like they raid the reject box from the manufactures. if your not a hard driver beating your car you should be fine with new gaskets for the heads, lower intake manifold to the heads gasket, and the upper to lower intake gaskets, i still recomend new head bolts.

I found a kit with all 75.00 no head bolts, does this sound right it comes with exhaust gaskets and packing also. I will be doing bolts.

the heads are aluminum on your car. 75$ sounds about right. i forgot to mention before, you may need valvecover gaskets, but you probably got them in your kit.

                        p/s pump

There are three bolts behind the pulley(10mil).You access them through the holes in the pully. once their out you might have a little trouble getting out of it's mounting spot but some wiggeling at different angles will

If you look at the PS pulley, there are holes in it. You need to look into those holes to find the bolts. And the pulley needs to be rotated to get all three.

Danke! I actually found the fuckers before I came back for the tips, but hey, thanks anyway. Fuckin' thing was giving me nightmares. I'd like to know, however, how do get the cooland outlet hose off of the thermostat outlet on the LIM. It's the only thing holding it on now, and it's a bitch to get off. tks

Assuming you already have the clamp off, try twisting it back and forth. I know I've had to push a screwdriver under the hose before or use a cresent wrench to move the hose back and forth. Just be semi-gentle while doing it or you'll be buying a new hose...
