  • power steering pump leak

I just noticed my power steering has a leak it in somewhere. Not sure where. FIlled up the tank, and then it's low by the end of the day. This just started two days ago though! I noticed a whine the other day, didn't pay much attention to it. Heard a NASTY whine yesterday pulling into my driveway.

Is this a common problem for our 3.1s? it's nearing 111,111 miles, and has been maintenanced very well.
Just wondering if it's another one of our common problems and there's already a solution to it. I haven't found the source yet

    RE: power steering pump leak

hard to ay what it is without looking at it. it could be a bad hose, the crimp that gm uses (i usualy cut them off and just use a hoseclamp), or it could be the rack itself. have a look at it and see what you can see. a hose isnt hard to replace. if you determine its the rack leaking, id try some power steering stop leak, see if that will help. replacing a rack isnt a fun job, nor is it cheap.

I'm contemplating just replacing the whole system with one that I know for sure is good. I've got access to 5 parts grand prixs, so getting the parts isn't quite a concern unless i need a NEW one ...but ya i'll have a look at it later today. I'll be driving my work truck around, so my car will be fine. I just want to figure out this leak...i'm fine driving around town cuz i can just put a few ounces in the evening and the morning, but i don't wanna go on long trips with this
