  • Part Number Needed!!!

Can someone please help me. GMparts direct is frickin useless sometimes. I sent them a CLEAR picture of my engine with the part circled and they say they cannot assist me, "it's a hard to read illustration."

I am looking for the part number for the ventilation tube that starts from the stock rear intake duct right before the TB, and runs to the rear valve cover. It is in this picture: (this is not my engine, I would never have an engine that dirty, no offense to whoever it belongs to )

It's the hose that runs from the intake before the TB. Anyone know if I can order that from GM or if it's discontinued?? It's not listed in my parts list for this car. Thanks a lot.

    RE: Part Number Needed!!!

you can still order it. I had to get one from the dealer, but I got the NEWER style one (which is shaped different). I don't have the part number, however.

I had to go to the dealer, and point it out on the screen.

I think it is just called a breather tube. or somthing like that.

If they ask, it is NOT for the PCV, or for the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. They tried to sell me the PCV one instead of the proper one.

Just go up to your local dealer, and point it out on the screen for them (make them feel like idiots).

I think It was $16-$22 for mine (can't really remember seeing that I did not pay for it).

It's funny you mention that, because GMPartsDirect thought I meant the PCV one also. They sent me a picture with the wrong tube and asked if that was what I was looking for. As if "the tube that connects to the rear intake duct before the TB, to the rear valve cover" was not clear enough. Nowhere did I mention PCV valve. I'll try not to make them feel like idiots, but I think a lot of these people are.

Thanks for your help. The dealer was my next stop.

On the MPFI engines, that would be the PCV tube due to the PCV being on the rear valve cover.

But on the MPFI engines, the PCV line connects to the underside of the plenum, not the rubber intake tube.

it is a 3100 engine. The PCV on the 3100 is on the FRONT cover.

Seeing that they did not have the 3100 in 1994 (other than the LUMINA), and the pic he used is of a 3100, then I kinda put 2 and 2 together.

He also said that the plastic line goes from the INTAKE DUCT just before the throttle body to the rear bvalve cover. On the MPFI engine, that plastic line goes to the FRONT valve cover.

You are correct. BUT, some service counter guys at GM might not clue into that and look up just a 3.1L, therefore getting an MPFI diagram. Or, if they have more experience with looking up parts for a MPFI, they might have just assumed the 2 engines are the same and blatently picked the PCV hose.

That's the part number for the PCV tube, but it turns out to be the correct number after all. I went to the dealer and they gave me the PCV tube diagram again, and he said "that's the only tube that's showing..." After pointing out the tube on my actual engine, he looked again, and found out that the PCV tube, another tube, and the one I need, all came together, under that part #...so all in all I got what I wanted and a couple extra tubes.

                        Thanks again!

that is weird. When we ordered a new PCV tube for a friend of mines girlfriends 3100 in her 1997 Buick Skylark with the 3100, that was the ONLY tube that it came with. JUST the PCV tube.

Yeah I found it pretty weird too. And pretty confusing for the customer AND the parts guy. GM does some weird things.

Well, that tube is still part of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system, even though the PCV valve isn't connected directly to it, so it's possible both could be considered PCV tubes.
