Ok, this is prolly gunna be long. I wasn't sure where to put this, but I really need help with this.
Right now I'm experiencing three seperate problems that I believe are related. My first problem is that my Anti-Lock light and my Brake warning lights have started to randomly come in during last week and this week. Second problem is that my car is experiencing electrical problems that's becoming progressively worse. And third, my gas milage as all of a sudden dropped to 12mpg.
1. As stated before, my Anti-Lock my Brake light has been comming on at random times. My Anti-Lock light has been comming on more than the Brake light. According to the Haynes manual, the Anti-Lock warning light indicates a problem with the ABS system, but the main braking system is ok. The Brake warning light indicates a problem with the main braking system.
2. I also have electrical problems that have been getting worse. Last week when I have been comming home at night I noticed my headlights kept flickering. When I say flickering, I don't mean the lights completely went out, but more like the headlights would dim for a split second, return the normal, dim for a split second, and on and on. I ignored it hoping it would go away
Starting earlier this week the problem has progressed. When driving down the street the power would "flick" causing the radio to reset and the car would act like it had just been started up, but the motor kept running and the car was still drivable.
3. My gas milage has all of a sudden dropped to 12mpg, when I used to get 20-22mpg. And this is with me driving like a slow poke too. I'm not sure if this is related to the other problems or not, but I am assuming it is since the problem has started right when all the other problems started.
This morning my problems seemed to only get worse. When I tried to start the car this morning, the car completely died. The interior lights went out, the radio completely shut off, and nothing happened under the hood at all when I turned the key. So I left the keys in the ignition on the ON poistion and poped the hood. I hardly had the hood up when I heard the car come back on and the engine being primed. I turned the key and the car started up just fine. As I am leaving my driveway I notice that both the Brake and Anti-Lock warning lights are on. My brake pedal is also firmer than usual. As I'm driving along on an empty road the power flicks and the car (including the radio) resets itself while the motor is still running. After the "flick" the Brake and Anti-Lock warning lights are no longer on. As I get in a line of cars waiting to pull into the school enterance my car completely dies. I try to restart it but it goes completely dead again. I'm holding up traffic at this point as I get out into the rain to look under the hood. A crossing guard runs over to me to ask if I'm ok and I explain to her my car won't start. I close the hood and walk over to the driver seat and turn the key. The car finaly starts back up but immidiately dies. I turn the key again and the car starts and stays running. I was able to pull into my parking space without any more troubles.
Comming home this afternoon, I had none of the problems mentioned earlier. They all seem to be completely random when they happen, but they all started happening about the same time last week.
