  • choosing some rod bearings

I've got my 2.8 engine apart and my rod bearings are showing some wear.

My crank journals are in good shape and were turned by somebody down to 1.9760 while my rod journals are at 2.1260.

I need to choose some rod bearings. Anybody know what size to get?

    fiero?

    have you checked out www.fierostore.com?

thay have everything a fiero could want/need, save for the conversion kits.

talk to them, they probably set you up with a sett of real good bearings. they have rebuild kits with everything you need, 9.33 compression ratio. all kinds of goodies.

make me wish i had a fiero.

Don't waste your money on the Fiero Store for parts like bearings...your local auto parts store will carry the exact same parts cheaper. The Fiero bottom end isn't any different than any other 660, so a good set of quality Clevite-77 tri-metal bearings will be good.

The crank dimension looks to me like you need the standard 0.5mm (0.020") undersize. I'm not sure what the nominal ID for the rod is. If it is oversized, you will need to get a bearig with an oversized OD and 0.5mm undersized ID.

        Thanks guys.

I've been told that the Clevite tri-metal are good ones. As for the Fiero Store, I have no problem ordering from them except I get whacked pretty hard over the border duty and dollar exchange, so I try to buy locally when I can.

I expect the .020 is correct, with the crank at 1.9760, but I'll get the machinist to confirm.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to bash on the Fiero Store...they make great stuff, some of which I have bought, and been very happy. I just wouldn't buy simple stuff like bearings, spark plugs, belts, hoses, etc. from them when these parts can be bought locally for cheaper.

Was the crankshaft gouged when you took it apart? Normally if it is in good shape, all that is required is a good polishing. Good luck with the rebuild.
